Healthy Lifestyle & Holiday Tips From Jennifer Galardi

Jennifer Galardi, a registered nutritionist and fitness consultant to Kim Kardashian, Julianne Hough and the Pussycat Dolls has a few healthy tips for everyday living and surviving the upcoming holidays.
One of Jennifer's main health tip is, taking a "whole foods approach to choosing food."
"A lot of whole grains, as unprocessed as you can get, as close to the earth as you can get - and I think you're good to go. Everybody has their own tweaks and nuances towards their program. Some people like more protein, some people are vegetarian, but I think if you start with the whole foods kind-of perspective, people can be a lot healther just going that route."
And for those organic lovers, Jennifer warns against some organic food.
"Organic is sometimes deceiving. I feel people say organic 'ooo, then it must be good for me!' Well organic is really processed. I mean like organic Newman's Oreos - it's still a processed food - so it can be deceiving."
Having stated prior, "the closest you can get something out-of-the-ground safe, like vegetables, the more you move towards that, the better you're going to be - whether it's organic or not. Obviously though you don't your fruits and vegetables sprayed with pesticide."
She jokingly added, "just because you're buying organic Ho Hos, doesn't mean it's good for you."
Here's a couple of Jennifer's healthy tips to surviving the holiday season:
"My biggest thing is don't tell yourself you can't have something. Give yourself a little bit of a break, try to keep up with an exercise routine as much as possible."
Also if you're invited to a million holiday parties, try to avoid the ones where you don't know that many people. If you're like Jennifer, the food table begins to become your party buddy for the evening. Another words, we tend to eat more at parties with people we may not really know because we're not socializing as much.
Jennifer is also working with B&G Foods introducing a Polaner sugar free preserves with fiber. This is a great substitute rather than dried fruit jams on a cheese plate because it is low in sugar and high in fiber, which means you will get fuller quicker.

Jennifer also likes to make granola with the jam for the holiday. It's not only a healthy snack, but it also keeps her heating bill cost low because she uses the oven to bake, which keeps her house warm - great way to save money and live healthy.
But the nutritionist isn't Superwoman either, she does get tempted by some sugary treats, her weakness?
"Dark chocolate, but I never feel really guilty about it because I only do 70% or over. It probably would be Peanut M&M's and Reese's Pieces."
And of course Jennifer has a tip on how to control those cravings. If you're having crazy cravings for carbohydrates, sweets, etc. - it's usually because your body is lacking certain nutrients. To help curb Jennifer's sweet cravings, she needs to eat "sweet potatos, yams and squash" in the winter.
Some of Jennifer's upcoming projects besides her Polaner jam is the recent release of her dvd called "Ballet Body." It consists of toning, lengthening and strengthening that combines classic ballet and Pilates exercises. Jennifer says it "feels really good on the body."
Jennifer who's a trained dancer feels that dancing is a great way to get in shape, but also "it's very organic, very natural. In my heart I wanted to dance all the time." Ballet body is a intermediate level workout with modifications for beginngers or more advanced.
Here's a recipe for 35 calorie peanut butter and jelly cookie:
INGREDIENTS: 1 cup all purpose flour 1/3 cup Splenda® brown sugar 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 cup Splenda® 1 egg white 1½ tablespoon light margarine (stick) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1½ tablespoon applesauce Polaner Sugar Free Preserves with Fiber 4 tablespoons reduced-fat peanut butter Cooking spray
DIRECTIONS: Melt the light margarine in a small saucepan until it sizzles. Remove from heat and pour into a small glass dish. Place glass dish with light margarine in the freezer until firm, between 10-15 minutes. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. In a mixing bowl, combine margarine, applesauce and peanut butter by beating on medium speed until smooth. Fold in sugars, egg white, and vanilla. Once smooth, gradually add in the flour mixture. Stop mixing once Form dough into a large ball, cover with plastic wrap, and freeze for two hours. Preheat over to 350 degrees and coat baking sheet with cooking spray. Remove cookie dough, form into small balls, and place on cookie sheet. Before placing in oven, push thumbprint into all cookies.
Bake for 3 minutes, remove from oven, and fill all thumbprints with Polaner Sugar Free Preserves with Fiber. Return to oven and bake for 7-10 more minutes.
