True Or False: Does Stretching After Working Out Reduce Muscle Soreness?

So what do you think, is it fact or fiction that stretching your muscles after a workout will reduce soreness? I guessed fact - but I was wrong. According to a recent review of studies from the Cochrane Collaboration, stretching is not the best way to dull post workout pain. Instead, engaging in activities that increase blood flow to your muscles is the best way to ward off soreness. Dr. Rick Wright, of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Washington University, suggested:
"To protect against soreness do low-impact cardio, such as walking or the elliptical, for 30 minutes, or indulge in a deep issue massage." - Fitness Magazine

Does this mean you should skip stretching all together? - I wouldn't recommend it. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of stretching because when I'm done with my workout, I want to get out of the gym ASAP. However, stretching is proven to improve flexibility and prevent injury, so I wouldn't trash the post workout stretch just yet. In regards to next day muscle pain, I always pop a couple of Advil and it usually does the trick!
Post A comment: Were you shocked to learn that stretching doesn't stop the muscle pain? How do you fight through after workout soreness?

Scarlett Johansson Embraces Her “Curves”

Scarlett_Johansson_Mary_Ellen_Matthews_Photoshoot_15.jpg
I am a huge fan of Scarlett Johansson; she has such a classic Hollywood look to her. She reminds me of the "old Hollywood", like 1950's Hollywood, when it was considered the norm that actresses actually ate food and looked healthy. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. All around us we see incredibly shrinking celebrities. That is why it was so refreshing to learn about Scarlett's outlook on her body:
"I'm curvy. I'm never going to be 5'll, 120 pounds, and rail thin, but I feel lucky to have what I got." - Shape Magazine

Although I love this girl, I did have to laugh at the fact that she considers herself to be curvy, that is just so insane to me. Using Hollywood standards - I would be morbidly obese!
Post A Comment: What's your opinion of Scarlett's body?

Thank Goodness Beyoncé Is No Longer On The Master Cleanse Diet

Singer and actress Beyoncee Knowles received loads of negative press in 2006 when she announced on the Oprah show that she used the Master Cleanse Diet to shed 20 pounds in 2 weeks. Beyoncee needed to drop the weight fast to prepare for her starring role in the hit film "Dream Girls". Just as a reminder, physicians recommend losing no more than 1-2 pounds per week. Thankfully, Beyoncee now follows a much healthier weight management program mainly consisting of vegetables, and low calorie/low fat/low carb foods.
