Don't Jeopardize Your Health Because Of Fashion
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 @ 3:34pm
Imagine you’re getting ready for a night out; you put on some lip-gloss, do your hair and slip on a pair of skinny jeans. Looking like a million bucks you head out the door. However, you may want to think twice about your favourite pair of jeans; they may make you look great but they potentially pose a health risk.
Meralgia paresthetica, also known as “tingling thigh syndrome”, is a condition caused by constant pressure which cuts off the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. This causes a numbing sensation, which can be accompanied by a tingling or burning feeling, up the thigh.
Usually seen in obese people, pregnant women or those who wear low and heavy belts, such as police officers, it is now affecting young women who are following fashion and wearing skinny jeans.
Dr. John England, a neurologists explains that in some people the nerve is particularly vulnerable to compression. “Anything that is tight around there could potentially compress the nerve that goes there”, he says.
For many women this news does not mean they will be throwing out their jeans any time soon. Editor of Fashionista.com, Abby Gardener says,
“It doesn't make me hesitate to wear my jeans— the same way I don't hesitate to wear the shoes I wear.”

Jordin Sparks: In Tip-Top Shape!
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 @ 11:16am
But the American Idol winner has another high note to add to her resume: whipping herself into the best shape of her life. Okay, so she's only 19. Still, that's quite an accomplishment at any age!
“I’m literally drenched every night when I get off the set because the stage for this world tour I’m on is so massive,” she told OK! Magazine. “I’m constantly moving, and I do have my trainer out on tour with me this time around. He just got here last week, and it’s been a lot of fun. Any time I find time – or I’m not sleeping – he’s like ‘let’s work out, let’s do something.’ I’m like ‘nooo,’ but he gets my butt up and I’ve gotta do it. It’s fun to do that.”
Here's the lowdown on her food intake and exercise regimen:
Exercise: “We do a whole bunch of different things,” the Arizona native says. “He doesn’t keep the same thing every time, so he shocks the body so you’re running, you’re doing throw-downs, you’re doing stairs, you’re doing lunges. I’ve done all of those in the past four days, and I will tell you that my butt hurts very badly.”
Diet: “It’s not really different. I don’t deprive myself of anything. If I want to have a brownie, I’m going to have a brownie, but it’s all about food proportion.”
Taylor Lautner Sick Of Being Buff?
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 @ 11:05am
It was just last week that Fit Celeb blogged about Taylor's article in the latest issue of Interview magazine in which he positively talked about bulking up for New Moon, the second installment of the Twilight franchise.
The latest scoop, though, is that Taylor can't wait to ditch daily intense workouts and return to his body's safe-and-sound happy weight - and who can blame him?!
An insider told press, “Normally Taylor is much thinner. It’s a struggle to keep the weight on because he likes to run. He’s into martial arts and has a pretty quick metabolism.”
“He says he doesn’t feel like himself. He intends to stay fit, but he says he will take off at least 20 pounds once filming wraps on the final installment of Twilight.”
Well, we love Taylor regardless!
14-Year-Old Boy Habitually Drinks Gasoline
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 @ 10:55am
"Since my son started to drink gas, his IQ has dropped sharply and now he can't figure out simple addition and subtraction. Before that, he was a very smart boy, and he could even repair the television. But now he does not know the answer of 7 plus 17," the boy's parents said.
According to the doctors at the Shanghai hospital where he's being treated "the gasoline contains a lot of lead, which can do harm to people's brains. To make thing even worse, the boy is in the physical development stage, and the lead has caused serious damage to his body."
Okay, there is something seriously wrong here. Why aren't the parents taking further action? It seems like this boy has a serious problem and needs more than a temporary stay at Shanghai hospital, don't you think?

Australian Comedian Loses Quarter Of Her Weight
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 @ 10:47am
The Aussie comedian recently reached her goal weight, shedding an astonishing quarter of her highest weight.
"I feel like I've climbed Mt Everest," said Szubanski, 48, in an interview for the latest issue of Australia's Women's Weekly. "I can honestly say, I can't remember a time in my life when I felt better."
The biggest perk of shedding the pounds?
"I just feel so well and have so much energy, not just for exercise, but for life," she says. "(And) that niggling worry that used to be there sabotaging everything I did, that anxiety is gone."
The funny lady and star of Australia's Kath & Kim and Guys and Dolls had sleep apnoea, a bad back, hip and knee pain, as well as a recurring lung infection, all of which prompted her decision to join Jenny Craig last year.

Leona Lewis Won't Be Eating Rabit Tonight!
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 @ 10:01am
British singer Leona Lewis once saved a rabbit from a homeless man who threatened to eat it for his dinner.
"The Bleeding Love" hitmaker was walking along a street in Los Angeles when she saw a man sitting with the white bunny on a leash. According to British newspaper The Sun, Lewis was so concerned over the creature's welfare, she asked the vagrant what he was going to do with the animal, to which he replied, "Don't know - probably eat it."
But Lewis, who is a strict vegetarian, was so shocked at the prospect she gave the man $100 and told him to spend it on food for himself. A source tells The Sun the 24 year old has since adopted the rabbit and taken it to live in her Hollywood Hills home. The insider adds,
"Leona is the proud owner of a new white rabbit called Melrose which she is keeping in her garden. She was shopping on Melrose Avenue last week when she spotted it being kept on a lead by a homeless man. She didn't think life on a lead was any way for a rabbit to live - then when he said he was going to eat it she knew she had to save it."
The singer also has an adopted horse which she keeps in a stable in California.
