The 5-Factor Diet

fivefactordietbookFivefactorfitnessbook

Stars like Katherine Heigl, Eva Mendes, Vanessa Williams, John Mayer, and Alicia Keys swear by this diet. The 5 Factor plan, which was created by celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak, offers flexibility and balance so that you avoid feeling deprived. The 1,300 calorie per day diet basically revolves around the number 5. There are 5 meals a day, each made by 5 core ingredients, and 5 workouts a week, each made up of 5 exercises - which you’ll perform for….guess…..that’s right….5 minutes at a time. Are you noticing a trend!

The Five Criteria for Each Meal:
1. low-fat protein
2. low- to moderate- glycemic carbohydrate
3. fiber
4. healthy fat
5. sugar-free beverage

My favorite part of this diet: You are allowed one full “cheat day” – where you can essentially eat whatever you want. Does it sound like something you would like to try? Well if you live in the LA area and you have an extra $3,000 per month to spend on food - you can get three 300 calorie meals and two 200 calories snacks delivered to your door. God I wish I was a celebrity! Yeah, well, in the interim I’m gonna pass on this option. However, I can always buy Pasternak’s book which offers an overview of the philosophy and a 100 pages of “easy” to follow recipes!

  1. sounds like a workable plan….i’ve been walking to work when the weather allows (45-min to 1 hour) adding more fiber and trying to forget about sugar- thanks !

  5. Sound’s interesting but for most people i actually don’t think it would work. It’s okay for celebs who don’t work 9-5 Mon-Fri; but i don’t really have the time to eat five small meals a day at work.
